EndNote

EndNote logoEndNote works on Windows, Mac, web, and iOS. EndNote basic is a more limited reference management solution that is only available online. EndNote basic users can create an online library with a maximum of 50,000 references and up to 2GB of attachments. A student license for the full version of EndNote 20 (unlimited references) is a one-time purchase of $115.95. 

 

Citations: can be imported from RIS files or added from OneSearch through the library. Citations can also be added from any webpage with the free EndNote Click extension and organized in your EndNote library

PDFs: can be saved and annotated in EndNote

Sharing: papers and folders can be shared with external users

Writing: EndNote integrates with Microsoft Word to cite as you write with thousands of reference styles

 

Mendeley

Mendeley works on Windows, Mac, and web. You can get started and save up to 2GB in your personal storage for free. Increase your personal storage with a premium membership for $4.99/month (5GB), $9.99/month (10GB), or $14.99/month (unlimited storage). 

 


 

Citations: imported from RIS files and organized in the program

PDFs: can be saved and annotated with Mendeley's annotation tool

Sharing: references cannot be shared with external or Mendeley users

Writing: integrates with Microsoft Word to cite as you write

Paperpile

Paperpile works on web, iOS, and Android. An academic subscription is $2.99/month. 

 

 


 

Citations: can be imported from RIS files or added from any webpage with the Paperpile extension and organized in the app 

PDFs: are organized and saved in your Google Drive folder, and can be annotated with Paperpile's tool or an external tool of your choosing

Sharing: papers and folders can be shared with external or other Paperpile users.

Writing: Paperpile integrates with Google Docs and Microsoft Word to cite as you write
