How to Help

The following is a curated list of organizations offering opportunities to donate to those affected by this crisis, including victims and first responders.

This list was curated by The Chicago School Library staff and librarian based in Southern California, and each resource was selected with certain criteria in mind, including availability of information on transparency in how funds from each organization are allocated and which organizations are already on the ground providing relief.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has a long history of helping vulnerable households after a disaster. They are launching ReBUILD LA®, a long-term emergency response campaign, to assist those affected to rebuild their homes, relocate to other housing, provide essential supplies, and restore their lives.
California Fire Foundation
The California Fire Foundation provides critical support to surviving families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and the communities they serve.
Anti Recidivism Coalition Firefighter Fund
Provides support to incarcerated firefighters working tirelessly to save homes, including immediate relief and long term scholarship funding.
Red Cross
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to victims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members and their families. Donations can be earmarked specifically to the Wildfire fund, directing resources to keep community shelters and supply centers open.
Mutual Aid LA
MALAN is maintaining a list of mutual aid resources available to those affected by the fires and updates it regularly with calls for volunteers & donations from local organizations providing direct community support.
SPCALA DART Fund
DART is a mobile command post which contains a full communications system that is capable of monitoring and dispatching emergency services during disasters to provide temporary shelter for animals and front-line veterinary care. DART works with local, state, and national agencies to help families and their animals with medical, food and housing assistance.
World Central Kitchen
WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. WCK’s Relief Team is currently maintaining 17 centers in the affected areas.
Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation
LAFD firefighters need your help to save lives and protect property during this wildfire. The LAFD Foundation is actively seeking funds to equip LAFD members battling wildfires with equipment and supplies.
LA Regional Food Bank
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is working with over 600 partner agencies to respond to the fires distributing food to those in need.
International Medical Corps
International Medical Corps stands ready to provide additional medical and mental health services, as well as other critical support, to health facilities—including FQHCs, which serve low-income and other vulnerable populations—as well as local partners and affected communities during this crisis.
Baby2Baby
Baby2Baby is working around the clock with 470 partner organizations in LA County spanning schools, homeless shelters and resource centers to fulfill requests for children and families by providing diapers, food, formula, water, clothing, blankets and hygiene products.
